Cultural Extravaganza on cards @ Golconda Fort

Mamidi Harikrishna, Director, Department of Language & Culture, Telangana Government, says that this year’s Independence Day celebrations at the 650-year-old historical Golconda Fort is definitely going to be a cultural extravaganza. “It’s a humble tribute from the Government of Telangana to the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Swatantra Bharata Amrutotsavalu,” he says.

The Golconda Fort will be buzzing with cultural activity when 1500 dancers belonging to various dance forms will converge at the Fort on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations. According to Mamidi Harikrishna, preparations are on for a grand event with more than 1500 folk, ethnic, native original artists, including classical and Indian arts like, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Perini, Shingari Mela, Rajasthani, Bhangra, Dhol Tasha, etc, depicting the Indian culture in general and Telangana art forms in particular.

Harikrishna says that folk art forms like Chindu Yaksha Ganam, Oggu Dholu, Baindla, Kolatam, Bonala Kolatam, Dappulu, Puli Veshalu, Bonalu, Karra Samu and tribal art forms like Kommu Koya, Gussadi, Lambadi, Bindela Banjara, Chenchu and Hyderabadi Deccani art forms like Sheri Baaja, Marpha, Qawwali will be showcased. “The illumination of the Fort will add colours to the celebrations with their rich traditional costumes, attire, music and dance,” the director adds.
