Close to two decades of dancing experience in Mohiniyattam, Anita Peter first forayed into Bharatanatyam under Kanaka Devi in Kuwait, where her parents were stationed due to job prospects. Along with Mohiniyattam, in Kuwait, and later in Ernakulam, Kochi, Anita also learnt Carnatic vocals for eight years, under guru Latha.
Drawn to Mohiniyattam dance form, Anita joined as a disciple of Guru Sreedevi Unni, Monisha Arts, Bengaluru, and since then there has been no looking back. Her guru was instrumental for Anita establishing the Lasya Drutha. She continues to guide her. Along with her Guru Sreedevi Unni, Anita has been a part of several dance ballets, including Gandhim Shanthim, Gandhari Vilapa- Mathruspandanam, Narada Kuravanji and Mandodari-Sita.
A graded Doordarshan dancer, Anita has attended special Mohiniyattam learning sessions with Nirmala Paniker (eminent research scholar, exponent and Guru of Mohiniyattam) as well as with Jayaprabha Menon (eminent Mohiniyattam dancer and exponent). She has been bestowed with Konark Nrithya Bibushan award.
Anita has also made a name for herself as leadership skill development facilitator, social awareness facilitator, Author and initiator of I-pledge Awareness for change. She recently authored a book “To win your battles STAY ALIVE’, which is based on the realities faced by her.
