Dr. Himabindu Uppari is a Bharatanatyam dancer and founder of Mudra Academy of Fine Arts, Hyderabad and is pursuing Bharatanatyam in both the academics and practical genre. Presently, she is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music and Fine Arts at Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (Women’s University), Tirupati.
A graded artist from Doordarshan, Dr. Himabindu has performed at several prestigious platforms across the country and abroad. She has also conducted Bharatanatyam lecture demonstrations and workshops at many places in India and Dubai and United Kingdom.
In 2009, Himabindu was presented the Young Artist award in Bharatanatyam, in 2010 – the Vennala Puraskaram by the Vennala Organisation, Hyderabad and in 2017, the title of Natya Ratna by Rama Ratna Trust. In 2018, she received the Ugadi Puraskar from Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and also the Janapada Saahitya Ratna title from Telugu Janapada Saahitya Parishat, the same year.
Himabindu graduated from the Kalakshetra, Chennai, has a Masters in Dance from the Central University of Hyderabad, M. Phil. (Folk Arts) from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and Ph.D. from Central University of Hyderabad. She is a recipient of the Senior Research Fellowship for her research from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
