On the occasion of Guru Purnima, we the students of Bharathanatyalaya, offer tribute to our Guru Smt. Chitra Narayanan garu, who has provided help and direction to her disciples all across the world. Guru is like Brahma-the creator. He creates or inculcates knowledge in the minds of the students. Guru is like Vishnu – the preserver. He maintains or preserves the knowledge in the students. Guru is also like Shiva-the destroyer.
Guru removes the darkness of ignorance from the students’ mind. Guru is hence the manifestation of the Para Brahma (the supreme essence) within all of us. Guru is God manifesting in a personal form to guide the aspirant. Guru is united with God, inspires devotion in others and his presence purifies all. Guru is also the Moksha-dvara (door to liberation) who guides and helps the aspirant in attaining it.
Guru Smt. Chitra Narayanan garu, worthy daughter of Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan garu, started teaching Bharatanatyam since 1985, to many students across the world. Her Style of choreography is very unique that the spectators get connected to the performance very easily. She has a very realistic approach to the Abhinayam and hence her choreographies of Padams and Javalis are well acclaimed by the audience. The pedagogy adopted by her, shapes the actions, judgements and other teaching strategies taking into consideration the understanding, needs, backgrounds and interests of each individual student.
-Sreeja, Bharathanatyalaya
