Rohini Kandala, born and brought up in Hyderabad, was initiated into Bharatanatyam at the age of 10 by Sadhana Paranji (USA). She began learning Kuchipudi from Late Dr. K. Uma Rama Rao, Head of Dept. (Dance) (Retd.) Telugu University, Hyderabad. She later came under the tutelage of Guru Bhagavatula Sethuram, Head of Dept. (Dance) Telugu University, Hyderabad. She has given over 300 performances across the country and abroad.
In Sri Bhagavatula Sethuram’s ballets, Rohini portrayed Lord Rama in Rama-Natakam Yakshaganam; as Ganga in Ganga Gauri; as Lord Shiva in Girija Kalyanam; Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita; Sita in War & Peace; Gandhari in Lakshmana Rekha; as Mohini in Bhogini Lasyam; Dr. K. Uma Rama Rao’s Vishnu Pallaki Seva Prabhandham and Ekta Ki Awaz, as Lord Vishnu in Dr. Alekhya Punjala’s Goda Kalyanam, as Lord Srinivasa in Dr. Padmaja Reddy’s Annamayya Pada Nartana Shobha and Padma Bhushan Swapna Sundari’s Bhama Vilapam.
A Graded Doordarshan Artist, Rohini is pursuing Ph.D. from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (Hyderabad). Earlier, she did MA Kuchipudi, Certificate course in Kuchipudi, Diploma in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi from PSTU. A First Class Commerce graduate from Osmania University, Rohini has three articles published in various journals. Working with Guru Sri Bhagavatula Sethuram, she has created a module theory and practicals as part of curriculum for IIIT Hyderabad.
She is pursuing Mridangam certificate course from Bhakta Ramadasu Music College (Hyderabad) and Carnatic Music. She has established the Laasyanga School of Kuchipudi and imparting training to students.
