Music Helps In Dancing
Rishika Anand, Class XI student of Meru International School, Miyapur, Hyderabad, has been learning dance for about nine years. The Commerce student admits that learning music is very helpful when it comes to dance, as it becomes easier to learn the song and remember it while dancing.
“Yes, I want to be proficient in both dance and music, but when it comes to music, I don’t think I will be as good as Smitha akka. I learnt music first when I was small. But I quit when we shifted base and now, I am only learning dance,” confesses Rishika.
Varna Arts Academy student says that she practices dance every day, at least for some time. “I try to do some warmups, or basic steps or revise an item I have learnt. Since school has started for me, it is a bit difficult to practice for long hours,” she says. The Class XI student gives credit to her mother for initiating her into dance. “My mother enrolled me into dance when I was in 2nd grade. I never wanted to dance in the first place. When I came to Smitha akka‘s class, I was and still am, very much interested,” she says.
Rishika agrees that Dance is usually considered a stress buster, but for her it is something that she enjoys a lot. “Sometimes dance gives me a little stress, but in the end, results are very relaxing,” she declares.
Music Helps Catching Rhythm
Hansini Vyakaranam has been learning dance for seven-and-a-half years and music for five years. She agrees that indeed Music helps to remember the song or taalam on which one is dancing. “Music helps in catching the rhythm,” she says. Emulating her Guru Sindhuja akka, Hansini wants to excel in dance.
In the beginning Hansini’s mother enrolled her in dance, but later also put her in music. “My mother joined me in music after two years so that it can help to improve my dance too,” she says. On any normal day, this Class X student practices Dance and Music for half an hour or so before the class.
Many Congratulations to all the Bharatanatyam enthusiasts and Rishika wishing you and otehrs all the very best. God Bless. Paati, Periyappa, Periyamma.
