Dancer, Choreographer and Nattuvanar, Aswathy V Nair is trained in three forms of dance -Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Born to renowned dancer, Smt. Kalamandalam Saraswathy and renowned Malayalam writer and film maker, Shri M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Aswathy takes her name from her mother – (Sar) Aswathy and began her training in Mohiniyattam under her and is now learning under Smt. Kalamandalam Leelamma, one of the most illustrious names in Mohiniyattam.
Aswathy had her Kuchipudi Arangetram under the able guidance of Guru. Padma Bhushan Sri Vempatti Chinna Satyam of Kuchipudi Arts Academy, Chennai. She is presently under the tutelage of Guru Sri Kishore Mosalikanti.
She has received the Senior Scholarship for Mohiniyattam, instituted by the Dept. of Culture, Ministry of H.R.D. A graded artist of Doordarshan in both Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam, Aswathy has toured all over India and countries such as U.A.E, Bahrain, U.S.A., Canada, Malaysia, Egypt, Reunion Islands, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Singapore for performances.
Married to Bharatanatyam dancer N Srikanth, along with her husband Aswathy conducted a workshop based on “Karanas and Natya Sastra” for Kalasrishti in Kolkata in 2007 & 2008. She is also a much sought-after choreographer for corporate shows in Kerala and has to her credit choreographed several thematic productions both in India and abroad.
She has performed extensively in Chennai Sabhas and received the prestigious ‘Yuva Kala Bharathi’ award from Bharat Kalachar, Chennai in December 2010. Aswathy assists her mother at Nrityalaya School for Classical Dances functioning in Calicut. A post-graduate in English Language and Literature from University of Calicut, she is also trained in Carnatic music. With her husband, Aswathy has released DVDs on Kavadi Chindu, Mohiniyattam, Thiruchengottu Ardhanareeswar Kuravanji and Hastas and Bhedas.
