The Hyderabad-based Debashree Patnaik’s journey in Odissi commenced at the age of five years, under the tutelage of Sri Ganesh Swain at the Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneshwar. At the age of 16, she came under the guidance of Shri Yudhisthir Nayak, with whom she continues to nurture. Learning under Shri Bichitrananda Swain from Rudrakshya has been a privilege for Debashree. Her Guru’s untiring efforts have transformed her into a graceful dancer.
Her performances have taken her across the globe. She tours with Rudrakshya’s new choreographic works and conducts workshops. An accomplished dancer, Debashree is also an innovative choreographer. She has received many accolades of national and international acclaim which recognize her excellence as a performer. For some time, Debashree has worked with Sankalp, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of Indian classical arts.
A Masters in Technology in Computer Science Eng. from KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Debashree has taught engineering students of Biju Patnaik University and students of Classes XI and XII in DRS International School, Hyderabad.
A Doordarshan Graded artist, Debashree has taken part in many dance and cultural festivals across the country and won many laurels, including the Rajiv Gandhi Pratibha Puraskar, Senior National Scholarship for Odissi, and National Youth award. She has performed extensively in the US, Italy, Spain, Germany and South Korea.
