Kalaakaars take the audience on a patriotic trip

On the evening of Independence Day, it was patriotic flavour wafting the air at Shilparamam Madhapur, where the Kalaakaars of UoH, Alumni, Department of Dance, University of Hyderabad, presented Jaya Ketanam – a thematic dance presentation to commemorate the country’s 75th Independence Day celebrations.  

Jaya Ketanam was weaved with narration, interspersed with songs, music bits and poetry with dance. The opening scene narrated the greatness of Indian Culture and Tradition that places India in a unique position amongst the nations of the world. The scene continued with offering of prayers and salutations to the Gods / Goddesses, parents and followed with salutations to the revered Motherland. This concept was further emphasized by showing the farmers offering prayers to Mother Earth, connecting that the same spirit united the country in the freedom fight too.

In the next scene, they depicted how the Britishers entered the country for trade, gained control over India with divide and rule strategy. This was followed with the depiction of freedom struggle and the choice of ‘Ahimsa Margam’ for regaining freedom. During the depiction, music pieces and jathis were used to portray the scenes.

The finale was celebration of Independence through patriotic songs with a powerful message that all humanity should live with peace and uphold the pride of the motherland. According to Aparna Dhulipalla, who helmed the dance concept under the guidance of Prof. Anuradha (Jonnalagadda) Tadakamalla right from concept to presentation, shares that the patriotic songs were the courtesy of recordings of All India Radio, Vijayawada. “The poems were borrowed from the works of great writers like Sri Jandhyala Papayya Sastry and Sri Rayaprolu Subba Rao,” she said. Sri DSV Sastry exalted the presentation with his suggestions, narration and music composition.

The artists for the evening were Aparna Dhulipalla, Mahita Devulapalli, Praveen Voggu, Sandhya Gande, Sreenaiah Bakki and Ujwala Gummadi and were ably supported by PB Vaishnavi and Anusha Srinivas and makeup by Ramesh.
