Nrutya Kinnera brings alive Pahimam Krishna

Kuchipudi dancer and Artistic Director of Nrutya Kinnera, Habsiguda Branch, Maddali Soundarya along with her disciples presented a devotional recital, Pahimam Krishna, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami at Shilparamam Madhapur recently. The evening’s concert began with welcoming of the guests by Kinnera Swagatham, Avadharinchi Aadarinchi in Hamsadhwani Ragam and Eka Talam, which is a traditional welcome ensemble of the Kinnerasaanis (students of Nrutya Kinnera), at every performance.

The dance recital began with Vathapi Ganapathim in Hamsadhwani Ragam, Adi Talam, a classical Krithi on Lord Ganapathi composed by Muthuswami Deekshithar. This was followed by a traditional Nritta item, Jatiswaram in Athana Raagam and Adi Talam, composed by Parama Guru Bharata Kalaprapoorna Sri Vedantham Jaganadha Sarma Garu. Though the children were performing after a gap of 15 months in a public space, they were confident and brimming with energy.

The student presented Namasivayathe, which was an Adhyatma Ramayana Keerthana of Sri Munipalle Subramanya Kavi set in Dhanyasi Ragam and Adi Talam. The students also did justice to Mulaivittu Rangasaami Nattuvanar composition, Chalamela – Padavarnam set in Natakurinji Ragam and Adi Talam. This was followed by Chakani Talliki Chaangu Bhala, an Annamaacharya Keerthana set in Paadi Ragam and Adi Talam.

The highlights of the evening were Ramayana Shabdam set in Mohana Ragam and Adi Talam and Krishnashtami, the day being Krishnashtami. The rasikas in the audience were immersed in the beautiful “Krishna medley” presented by Maddali Soundarya and her students.

The Live orchestra included Mantha Srinivas on the vocal, Guru Maddali Usha Gayatri & Soundarya on Nattuvangam, Sridharachaarya on Mridangam, Kolanka Anil on Violin, Ramana on Flute. The evening’s performance was led from the front by Natyacharya Maddali Soundarya, and students C. Chandra Samhitha, Laasya Palsam, Pravardha Kondagari, Shubhagi Kondagari and C. Manwitha. They were ably supported by Smt. Ananya, Smt. Swapna and Smt. Niharika and make-up by Srinivas.

Chief Guest Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of the Telangana government and Guest of Honor, Padma Shri Dr. Manjula Anagaani shared their thoughts at the end of the programme.
