Two Classical Dance teams from Telangana, one from Hyderabad and the other from Kothagudem, one Bharatanatyam and the other Kuchipudi, will be performing at the 75th Republic Day parade named – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which will be held at Rajpath on 26th January 2022. The dance schools to represent the State at the Republic Day Parade are Hyderabad-based Sri Rama Nataka Niketan, currently run by Bharatanatyam dancer and Guru Manjula Ramaswamy and Sri Durga Sai Nruthyaniketan (SDSN), Kothagudem run by Kuchipudi dancer and Guru Sita Lakshmi Prasad.
Speaking exclusively to Natyahasini, Guru Manjula Ramaswamy says: “Our institution, Sri Rama Nataka Niketan has repeatedly brought laurels to the Telangana State and once again, we have proved our patriotism by representing the State and competing at the Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav organised jointly by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Defence. Under the name – Team Manjula Ramaswamy, we crossed the district-level on 27th November 2021, the State-level on 3rd December 2021 and the Zonal-level in Bangalore on 11th December 2021) to reach the Nationals held at New Delhi on 19th December 2021.” She says that the team returned home successful on 21st December 2021 after winning at the Nationals and is all set to win the heart of India with their performance at the 75th Republic Day parade named – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which will be at Rajpath on 26th January 2022. The dancers, who formed the team, include Dantuluri Jahnavi, Anushka Sara Mathew, Kamisetty Himanshita, A Shruthi Sreekumar, Jagabattula Maheshwari, Tejeswini Chakraborty, Garika Thanmaiee, GS Vidya Nandini, Borra Meghana, K. Nithya Varalaxmi Reddy.
According to information available, there were nearly 850 plus groups selected from all over India to be part of the finals in Delhi, to compete in the ‘Vande Bharatam’ event organised by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Defence. The judges for the event were renowned Classical Dancer Padma Shri Prathibha Prahlad ji, Ms. Geetanjali Lal ji, Sri Santosh Nair ji and Ms. Maitri Pahadi ji.
Proud Moment: Even for students of Sri Durga Sai Nruthyaniketan (SDSN), Kothagudem and Kuchipudi dancer and Guru Sita Lakshmi Prasad it is a proud moment. Sita Lakshmi states that Team SDSN Won in the Grand Finale of Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav, where 40 teams participated and bagged the opportunity to perform at the Republic Day Parade 2022 and represent the Telangana State. She thanked Sri Harikrishna Mamidi sir, Director, Dept. of Language and Culture for supporting the team. She says that the journey started in the last week of November with District level (virtual) selections and they were among the top three groups selected.
The SDSN founder proudly recalls that their team was one of the five selected to perform in front of esteemed guests: Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi- Hon’ble Minister of State for Culture, Sri Govind Mohan & Ms. Amitha Sarabai – Secretary Cultural affairs GOI., Smt. Ila Arun -Renowned Singer and Dancer, Smt. Shovna Narayan – Renowned Kathak dancer and wonderful audience again in the evening. The Team SDSN consists of: Srinija Sriramula, Indrani Indu, Srikavya Dasari, Sumasmitha, Ankitha Tatapuri, Anjali, Sri Sravya, Manisha Ravula, Yamini and Geethika Bangari.
