Pasumarthy Kesava Prasad, a native of the famous Kuchipudi village, and a treasure house of knowledge, attained Lotus Feet. Born on August 1, 1952, Kesava Prasad, hailed from an illustrious family. His father, Late Sri Subrahmanya Sastry was popular for emoting female characters in Kuchipudi dance dramas. His grandfather, Late Sri Vedantam Ramakrishnaiah was well-known for his role as Harishchandra. With over 2k stage performances, Kesava Prasad had also studied Certificate and Diploma courses in Kuchipudi, along with BA in Sanskrit. For a period of five years from 1978-83, he worked as a part time dance assistant in Sri Siddhendra Kalakshetram.
His gurus were Nritya Vachaspati Late Sri Vedantam Parvateesam garu, Sri PVG Krishna Sarma garu, and Padma Bhushan Dr. Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam garu. His memorable choreographies include Parvathi Kalyanam, Parijatappa Haranam, Bhama Kalapam, Srinivasa Kalyanam, Varudhini Pravarakhya and Sivayatubhyam Namaha. He loved emoting characters of Aniruddha, Krishna, Madhavi, Indra, Chandamarkulu, Banasura and Bali Chakravarthi to name a few. His famous co-actors were Late Sri Vedantam Rattaiah Sarma garu, Sri Pasumarthy Venkatesha Sarma garu and Late Dr. Chinta Ramanaddham garu. He played vocal and nattuvangam also.
Apart from the Kuchipudi fraternity, many others in the field of music and dance will also miss this scholar and gentleman. May his soul rest in peace.
