Dancers across the country are eager to perform on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri at Shiva Temples to pay obeisance to the Lord of Dance, Lord Shiva, who is known by many names. Students of Bharatanatyam dancer and founder of Shri Narayani Natyalaya, Santhosh Kumar Thamang to celebrate Maha Shivaratri performed at the Bhramarambha Mallikarjuna Devasthanam, Srisailam, on Sunday last.
The students performed eight items and held the audience mesmerised. They began the evening’s performance with Natesha Kautwam, which was followed by Shiva Stuthi in praise of the presiding deity of Srisailam Temple. Next was a Tamil Padam, Kaalai Thooki, a Kriti – Ananada Natana Prakasham.
The students also danced on a Padam – Nattanam Adinar, Hanuman Chalisa, Sringara Lahari and ended with another Tamil Padam, Vazhi Marikude Mali Pole. The dance pieces were selected keeping in view the occasion, but Hanuman Chalisa was added to make it more energetic and divine. The students who performed at the Srisailam Temple included Michelle, Parvathy, Soma, Urvija, Anouska, Siri Chandana, Asmitha, Misika, Lavanya and Nikhil.
The Guru and the students had a darshan of the Lord and Goddess at Srisailam after the performance and also, were honoured.
