SaiNe Nrityalaya students along with their Guru Neha Singh, on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, perform at the Vemulawada Temple. Speaking to Natyahasini, Bharatanatyam dancer Neha Singh shares that their opening performance was a fusion item, which was inclusive of Bharatanatyam + gymnastics + yoga.
The main piece was a mythological one, which depicted the story of Goddess Kali, where after killing demon Daruka, Kali drank his blood. The bloodlust drove her mad and she went around the world killing at random. The Gods begged Lord Shiva to stop her. So, he took the form of a handsome man and lay in Kali’s path. As soon as Goddess Kali stepped on him, she bit her tongue out of embarrassment.
“The devotees at the temple were in awe of the presentation. Performing in the Temple has its own aura and energy,” says the Bharatanatyam Guru.
