Team Shivansh Presents Exquisite Pieces

Team Shivansh and Shivansh School of Arts led by Bharatanatyam dancer Maithri Rao presented exquisite items that held the audience spellbound at Shilparamam Madhapur on 15 July 2022. All the presentations for the evening were beautifully choreographed by none other than Maithri herself and the opening piece paying obeisance to Lord Gajanan was jointly choreographed by herself and co-dancer Nenita Praveen. The highlights of the evening were the presentation of ‘Streets of India’, ‘Homam’ and ‘Bhagyada Laxmi’.

Just like they say, ‘Wait till the End, or you will miss the best’, proved right for all those who stayed back. In the ‘Streets of India’ ‘Team Shivansh’ used classical dance as a tool to narrate stories about Indian streets. What one sees when one steps out were all there in the classical art form, right from a bunch of kids playing gully cricket, fights, street vendors selling vegetables, fruits and food being sold on the streets. For the dance to enhance, Taufiq Qureshi provided beautiful music.

Team Shivansh dedicated a very famous Kannada composition of Saint Purandara Dasa ‘Bhagyada Laxmi Baramma …’ sung by Pandit Bhimsen Joshi to all the women present in the audience as they are Ghar ki Laxmi. The song ‘Bhagyada Laxmi’, which is heard in most of the weddings and house warming ceremonies in Karnataka, the dancers exhibited the grace that forms the crux of the piece.

Many Hindus perform the Yagna or Homam on special occasions. Team Shivansh brought out all the rituals performed in a Homam meticulously set to Chende – a percussion instrument played in Temples in Tulu naadu and Kerala. Maithri and the team did a brilliant job in performing the item.

Students of Shivansh danced to the devotional Kriti Shri Ramachandra composed by Goswami Tulsidas set to Raaga Desh extolling the personality of Ramchandra. The young students of the school presented ‘Tales of Bala Krishna’, wherein they beautifully depicted the scenes of playing ‘Hide And seek’, ‘Pranking the innocent with snake’, ‘Breaking pots of Gopikas’ and eating butter at other people’s homes. Though the programme was rescheduled, it was well-received by the rasikas. Team Shivansh composed of Maithri Rao, Tanushri Pembarthi, R Sanjana, Maneesh M, Megha Vijayan, Sivaganga, Gopika P, Akshara, Smitha Ramanna and Sonia Sony.
