Lakshmi Shankar

Kuchipudi dancer Lakshmi Shankar, born in a traditional family to M. G. K. Murthy and Annapurna of Hyderabad in Ranga Reddy district, began learning dance at the age of six years under the tutelage of V. Padmakalyan Garu and Sathyapriya Garu. Since childhood, she has given over 300 performances in Solo, Group and Dance Ballets. She has travelled all over the country to perform along with her Guru.          

In 1997, Lakshmi Shankar established the ‘Nrutya Deekshalaya’- to propagate the art form and has taught over 100 students till date. She believes in ‘Natyam Moksha Sadhanam’ and imparts knowledge in dance into molding tender feet and delicate hands. Lakshmi Shankar has choreographed 50+ solo dance items and ballets – namely ‘Mohini Bhasmasura’, ‘Puthadi Bomma Purnamma’ and ‘Kalinga Narthanam’. Among the awards she has received include Natyabharathi, Natya Shiromani, Natya Vidhyādhari, Abhinaya Sharadha, Shodasa Natya Guru Puraskar and many more.

Her students have done her proud by performing in Rourkela (Odisha), Bhopal (Utharadhikari Festival) Chidambaram Natyanjali -2017; Thiruvalangadu Nrithyanjali 2017 (organised by Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan); Venthanpathy Natyanjali; Madhurai Natyanjali; Noopuradhwani dance festival; Trivandrum; Kolkata, Kerala; Raipur; Thanjavur; Vijayawada; Guntur; Srisailam; Vishakha Utsav; Chennai Vasanth Utsav; Ravindra Bharathi Dance Festival; Melattur; Vishakhapatnam; New Delhi; Kolkata etc.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
